Five Americans released from Iran arrive in the United StatesThe five landed at Fort Belvoir on Tuesday morning after $6 billion in Iranian funds was transferred to Doha on Monday.
- The five dual Iranian-US citizens first flew from Tehran to Doha, then continued to Fort Belvoir, Virginia.
- Those released included Siamak Namazi, Emad Shargi and Morad Tahbaz; the other two did not wish to be named.
- Under the agreement, five Iranians were also released from US custody; three chose not to return to Iran.
- The US said the released $6 billion could only serve humanitarian purposes; Republicans raised concerns about possible support for proxy groups.

Key Facts154 Freed Palestinian Prisoners Forced into Exile
Oct 13, 2025 · Reading time: ~45 sec.

Summary created with AI assistance · Source: aljazeera.com
- Israel is deporting at least 154 freed Palestinian prisoners following a recent exchange deal with Gaza.
- These individuals are denied the right to return and face separation from their families and communities.
- Human rights experts label the forced exile illegal and inhumane, given the prisoners usually lack other citizenships.
- The deportations aim to end the prisoners’ political roles and limit their involvement in future conflicts.
It goes without saying it’s illegal. It is illegal because these are citizens of Palestine. They have no other citizenships. They’re out of a small prison, but they’re sent to a bigger prison, away from their society, to new countries in which they will face major restrictions. It’s inhumane.— Tamer Qarmout, associate professor in public policy at the Doha Institute for Graduate Studies, on the deportations of Palestinian prisoners.
