seattletimes.com/seattle-news/data/seattle-is-the-least-religious-large-metro-area-in-the-u-s/
Quick Glance: Seattle Emerges as Least-Religious Hub in the U.S.
- Americans have witnessed a decline in religious adherence over recent decades, with attendance at religious services dwindling nationwide. Recent survey findings point to Seattle standing out as one of the least religious areas in the country.
- Approximately 64% of adults in the Seattle area abstain from regular church or religious service attendance, accounting for around 1.98 million individuals out of the total 3.1 million adult population in the metro region encompassing King, Pierce, and Snohomish counties.
- The survey data is derived from the ongoing Household Pulse Survey conducted by the U.S. Census Bureau. A novel addition to the survey, the inquiry into religious service attendance was executed from early January to early February, with a comprehensive national sample of approximately 68,500 respondents.
- When compared to the nation's 15 largest metropolitan regions, Seattle emerges as the least religious locale, narrowly surpassing San Francisco. In Seattle, 63% of residents never or rarely attend religious services, placing it at the forefront of this trend, followed by Boston at 56%.

- While rents in the Seattle area and nationally surged in the early pandemic years, the rental market seems to have calmed since 2023, providing some relief to local tenants.
- However, recent survey data from the US Census Bureau suggests that the majority of renters in the Seattle area may not agree with these reports.
- Out of the estimated 658,000 individuals who experienced rent hikes, approximately 113,000 had a relatively minor increase of under $100. A significantly larger group - around 306,000 - saw their rent rise between $100 and $249 per month.
- Established in 2020 as a response to the pandemic, the initiative aimed to inform authorities and policymakers about the pandemic's effects on communities nationwide and offer data to support recovery post-pandemic.
