- The federal appeals court ruled that New Jersey’s ban on AR-15 rifles and high-capacity magazines violates the Second Amendment.
- The majority opinion stated that the amendment protects all magazines, not only those considered standard capacity by the state.
- Historical analogues cited by New Jersey failed to justify the restrictions under the Supreme Court’s recent test.
- This ruling precedes a Supreme Court review expected next summer on similar laws in Connecticut and Illinois.
The text of the Second Amendment covers all magazines, not just magazines that New Jersey considers 'standard capacity'.— U.S. Circuit Judge Arianna Freeman, writing for the majority.
