- Under Texas law, Christian Castro had to be released from Brownsville custody on August 27, 2026, after 90 days without extradition.
- Authorities arrested Castro on May 29 after a nationwide warrant was issued in May; Minnesota had sought his extradition since then.
- Prosecutors allege he fired through a home's front door at 24-year-old Julio Cesar Sosa-Celis and falsely accused two men of attacking an ICE officer.
- The federal judge said the court lacked jurisdiction because Governor Greg Abbott's extradition decision remains pending.
Greg Abbott is turning Texas into a sanctuary state for violent criminals.— Keith Ellison, Minnesota Attorney General, in a post online after Judge Fernando Rodriguez Jr.'s decision, criticizing Governor Abbott's refusal to extradite Castro.
