Sea Group seeks €222 million after Bayesian sinkingItalian prosecutors are investigating the captain and two crew members after seven people died off Sicily.
- The 75-metre Bayesian sank near Porticello off Sicily in mid-August during severe weather, while the exact circumstances remain unclear.
- Seven people died in the accident, including Mike Lynch and his 18-year-old daughter, while 15 people, including Lynch’s wife, survived.
- According to a media report, shipbuilder Sea Group is seeking €222 million in damages and is also suing Lynch’s widow Angela Bacares, her company Revtom Limited and Camper & Nicholsons.
- Prosecutors are investigating the captain and two other crew members, are also examining possible responsibility by the builder, and have not set a date to salvage the wreck lying about 900 metres off Porticello.
At this stage, we are absolutely not ruling anything out, especially since the investigation could develop in any direction.— Prosecutor Ambrogio Cartosio of the Palermo Public Prosecutor's Office, speaking to reporters; noting the inquiry is in its early phase and could unfold in any direction.
