Zelenskyy outlines three elements of a new peace planAccording to the Ukrainian president, the proposal developed with the US and Europe includes a ceasefire, withdrawal and guarantees.
- On August 23, Zelenskyy said Washington and European partners had already approved the concept, according to RBC Ukraine.
- The proposal calls first for a ceasefire and an equal-distance withdrawal of Russian and Ukrainian forces from the current front, which would create a buffer zone controlled by a third party and possibly a free economic zone.
- Security guarantees from the European Union and NATO would define possible responses to a new threat, while the United States intends to discuss the paper with Kyiv and Moscow and has announced further proposals.
- Attacks by both sides have continued while the plan is being negotiated, but the claims from Ukraine’s and Russia’s defence ministries could not initially be independently verified.
Everyone is reacting positively to what has been proposed. No one has any objections.— Volodymyr Zelenskyy, according to RBC Ukraine, regarding the peace plan and the reaction to it.
