- CBS reports that an internal June 16 memo communicated the changes to FBI personnel involved in applicant vetting.
- Applicants who paid for sex fewer than three times at least ten years ago may still be considered; solicitation in trust professions remains disqualifying.
- Theft from an employer no longer automatically disqualifies applicants if it occurred more than three years earlier.
- Past bestiality or animal cruelty before age 18 can preserve eligibility; the policy does not distinguish voluntary from coerced conduct.

We're not reducing our standards — we're actually making it harder. You've got to be fit to be an FBI agent.— Kash Patel, FBI Director; said during a July interview with former agent John Nantz, as reported by CBS News.
