BTS Withdraws from Grammys Over New CategoryThe band declined Grammy submission for 2027, protesting a new Asian Pop category that they say divides music by region.
- BTS announced they will not submit music for the 2027 Grammy Awards due to a new category for Asian pop music.
- The group expressed concern that the category segments music by regional and linguistic lines rather than promoting universality.
- Recording Academy leadership stated the category aims to celebrate the growth and diversity of Asian pop artists.
- Despite previous Grammy nominations, BTS has yet to win and has been on hiatus since 2022 for solo work and military service.
We have decided not to enter the Grammys this year. I hope music itself can be heard and loved rather than being distinguished by region or language.— BTS members (the seven members) in an Instagram post announcing their decision not to submit for the Grammys this year.
