- A federal judge in San Antonio issued a preliminary injunction against Texas' new mandate to display the Ten Commandments in every classroom.
- Plaintiffs claim the law breaches the First Amendment's separation of church and state protections.
- Texas is the largest state attempting this rule, and the case may advance to the U.S. Supreme Court.
- Similar laws in Louisiana and Arkansas have been blocked by courts, intensifying the nationwide legal conflict.
Even though the Ten Commandments would not be affirmatively taught, the captive audience of students likely would have questions, which teachers would feel compelled to answer. That is what they do.— U.S. District Judge Fred Biery stated in his 55-page ruling against the requirement for displaying the Ten Commandments in classrooms.
