Quick Glance: Indicted in Gilgo Beach Serial Murders: Case Overview
- For more than a decade, unsolved killings, known as the Gilgo Beach Murders, terrorized residents and puzzled authorities on Long Island's South Shore. A woman's 2010 disappearance led to the discovery of 10 sets of human remains, sparking a manhunt for a possible serial killer.
- He has been indicted on charges of first-degree and second-degree murder in connection with the killings of Melissa Barthelemy in 2009 and Megan Waterman and Amber Costello in 2010, according to the Suffolk County District Attorney.
- The specific victim he is expected to be charged in connection with was not disclosed, but authorities have identified Heuermann as the prime suspect in the 2007 disappearance and death of Maureen Brainard-Barnes.
- CNN has contacted Heuermann’s attorney, the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office, and the Suffolk County Police Department for comment.
