- Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin emphasized on Tuesday that the U.S. will continue to support Ukraine's efforts in the war against Russia, even as the U.S. Congress remains stuck due to funding reluctance to send additional weapons to the front.
- The conference took place a week after U.S. defense officials found and utilized $300 million in contract savings to finance a new package of military aid for Ukraine by extracting weapons from Pentagon stocks.
- U.S. leaders had stated in the past three months that they could not take more weapons off the shelves because they lacked the money to replenish the stocks. The Congress has been deadlocked for months over a new $95 billion supplemental bill that includes about $60 billion in aid for Ukraine.
- UNESCO indicates that Ukraine requires over a billion dollars to reconstruct its scientific infrastructure.
