- The Ipsos survey of 1,033 adults conducted from 30 July to 4 August put Labour on 28 per cent, Reform on 25, the Conservatives on 18, the Greens on 12 and the Liberal Democrats on 9 per cent.
- The survey was the fourth national poll Labour has led since Andy Burnham entered Downing Street and, according to the report, ended Reform’s more-than-year-long lead.
- Farage resigned after saying the parliamentary standards inquiries into a £5m donation and gifts had targeted him, denies wrongdoing and could be left without a parliamentary seat if he does not win on Thursday.
- When asked who would make the best prime minister, 36 per cent chose Burnham, compared with 15 per cent for Farage and 13 per cent for Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch.
The Labour party itself is still less liked than it has been for most of the last 20 years, and 7 in 10 are still dissatisfied how the country is being run overall — the ongoing pessimism of recent times has dampened public enthusiasm that a new PM will be able to quickly turn around the direction of the country.— Gideon Skinner, Ipsos senior director of politics, commenting on the Ipsos poll results.

- Polling has opened in Clacton after Nigel Farage resigned his parliamentary seat in protest at scrutiny of donations from his backers.
- The main Westminster parties are boycotting the contest and dismissing it as a stunt by Farage, while 34 candidates are standing, including Count Binface, Laurence Fox and three Official Monster Raving Loony Party candidates.
- The election is estimated to have cost about £250,000, and the 90cm ballot paper means the result is due to be announced on the floor of Clacton Leisure Centre rather than on a stage.
