- China disrupted all HTTPS traffic on TCP port 443 for slightly more than an hour on August 20, 2025.
- This outage prevented users in China from accessing most foreign websites and essential services like Apple and Tesla.
- No clear event was identified that would explain this censorship measure during the incident.
- Experts believe the disruption stemmed from either a new or misconfigured device within the Great Firewall system.
Between approximately 00:34 and 01:48 (Beijing Time, UTC+8) on August 20, 2025, the Great Firewall of China (GFW) exhibited anomalous behavior by unconditionally injecting forged TCP "RST+ACK" packets to disrupt all connections on TCP port 443.— The group Great Firewall Report stated this in a post on Wednesday.
