- In São Paulo, Lula honored Bruno Pereira and Dom Phillips, who were killed in June while documenting attacks on Indigenous lands.
- If elected, he plans an Indigenous peoples ministry and to rebuild Ibama, which critics say Bolsonaro deliberately dismantled after taking office in 2019.
- Lula pledged to end illegal gold mining completely and make the global climate crisis an absolute priority.
- He said he would strengthen federal police and border controls to reclaim remote Amazon areas such as the Javari Valley from drug and weapons gangs.
We will put a complete end to any kind of illegal mining. This can’t be simply through a law – it must be almost a profession of faith.— Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (Lula), former Brazilian president, at a São Paulo press conference laying out his pledge to end illegal mining and to make the global climate crisis an absolute priority if elected.
