- Carrington’s left arm struck Cunningham in the face during a fast break, resulting in a Flagrant 2 foul and Carrington’s ejection.
- Carrington told reporters Monday that the contact was not intentional, while saying she always plays with maximum effort.
- Shortly after returning to the locker room, Carrington posted the phrase White Privilege on Threads and tagged the Indiana Fever account.
- Responding to podcaster Emmanuel Acho on X, Carrington said she had never claimed that the foul assessment was based on White Privilege.
It was never intentional. And, look, it might happen again. That’s just how I play. I’m gonna always go all out. I’m not gonna just let an open layup happen. But like I said, I’m never intending to hurt anybody, regardless of the outside noise or whatever the situation may be.— DiJonai Carrington, speaking to reporters after the incident (as reported by the Chicago Sun-Times).
