Jul 5, 2026 · Reading time: ~45 sec.
Summary created with AI assistance · Source: heise.de
  • Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania is gradually moving away from Microsoft software toward a statewide open-source platform.

  • The newly adopted Nextcloud system offers secure file sharing and collaboration while maintaining full data sovereignty.

  • More than 50,000 public employees will use the software by 2026, managed by the state-owned IT provider DVZ M-V GmbH.

  • A partnership with Schleswig-Holstein improves IT security and coordinates mutual contingency plans.
    • Instead, we want to rely on European language models such as Mistral from France or Tilde from Latvia.
    — Marco Anschütz, Chief Information Officer (CIO) for IT and Digitalisierung in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, explained this in the context of avoiding dependency on US tech giants.
