Electric and plug-in hybrid car sales will reach a new global record in 2024 despite slowing growth in some markets, according to forecasts from the International Energy Agency (IEA).

The IEA predicted that 17 million battery electric vehicles and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles will be sold in 2024, up over 20% from 2023.

The IEA also mentioned that most electric cars are expected to be priced equivalently to petrol cars by 2030 as prices decrease. Tesla recently reduced prices to maintain its market share against strong competition from Chinese rivals like BYD, the world's largest battery electric car producer.
