PSG as a role model? Bayern boss Rummenigge draws lessons from the Champions League final

Key FactsRummenigge draws Bayern lessons from PSG’s title

Rummenigge watched the final live in Budapest, where PSG defeated Arsenal 4–3 on penalties.

He regards PSG’s shift from an expensive star ensemble to a functioning team as Bayern’s central squad-building lesson.

For Rummenigge, Bayern is fundamentally well positioned under coach Vincent Kompany and should consistently continue his sporting approach.

Rummenigge called Bayern’s 5–4 semifinal victory in Paris the Champions League season’s most attractive match; Figo and Čeferin reportedly agreed.

The lesson for FC Bayern is not that you have to do the most expensive transfer market, but the smartest one. PSG was only truly successful when they moved from an expensive star ensemble to a real team. You also don't have to constantly orient yourself after certain English or Spanish players.
— Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, Bayern supervisory board member, in an Absolut Bayern interview about the Champions League final and PSG's transfer approach – context: statements on Bayern's transfer strategy
