Three wildfires threaten SpokaneMore than 7,000 acres burned, about 700 structures were destroyed and roughly 65,000 people were forced to evacuate.
- The largest blaze, the Old Trails Fire northwest of Spokane, covers more than 3,600 acres, according to the state's Department of Natural Resources, while the Autumn Lane and Fairview fires also threaten the city.
- The Spokane County Sheriff's Office arrested 37-year-old Aaron Farinacci at his home without incident on Monday night, and authorities are charging him with first-degree arson in connection with the Old Trails Fire.
- Mayor Lisa Brown said nearly half of the city's neighborhoods had been evacuated or were at risk as the fire spread across about 12 square miles and remained uncontained.
- Hundreds of people, including many elderly residents, were staying at the Red Cross shelter in the Spokane Convention Center, while no immediate deaths or injuries had been reported.
"That historic weather event has caused probably one of the biggest damages that we have seen in the Spokane area in the history of our state," she said.— Sen. Maria Cantwell, speaking at a news conference about the fires.
