- The 22-year-old student was stabbed near Trier University on Wednesday morning and later died in hospital.
- Investigators say the victim and suspect did not know each other and encountered one another by chance at Petrisberg.
- The suspect was arrested shortly afterward and, prosecutors say, admitted stabbing the student immediately after his arrest.
- A judge ordered temporary placement in closed forensic psychiatry Thursday; an expert assessment will examine possible diminished criminal responsibility.
It is deeply shocking that a young life has been so suddenly extinguished by such a violent act. My thoughts are with the affected family and the friends of the young man.— Wolfram Leibe, Mayor of Trier, comment on the deadly stabbing near the Trier University
