- On Friday, Catalonia's regional government said it would investigate a research centre outside Barcelona.
- The virus was detected in 13 wild boars near the city; the disease is harmless to humans but potentially deadly for pigs.
- The ministry said Madrid genome sequencing found strong similarity to the Georgia 2007 strain, while other European cases differ genetically.
- Cresa lies within the six-kilometre confinement area; the centre told Maldita.es it found no evidence it was the source.
The discovery of a virus similar to the one that circulated in Georgia therefore does not rule out the possibility that its origin may lie in a biological containment facility.— Spain's Agriculture Ministry; commenting on the investigation into the potential lab-origin of the outbreak
