- At a Friday lunch, Republicans discussed a two-week continuing resolution without significant funding for Ukraine or disaster relief.
- The proposal was intended to give them time to draft a border-security amendment as a government shutdown loomed on September 30.
- Sen. Mike Braun said he expected Sen. Ron Johnson to bring the resolution to the Senate floor soon to gauge its support.
- Sen. JD Vance saw broad backing for a short-term measure, while Sen. Rand Paul predicted it could pass both chambers without Ukraine funding.
"I think the most important thing is the CR with the Ukraine funding won’t pass the House," he said. "Everybody needs to know that. That’s what they’ve said in the House."— Rand Paul (R-KY) during a Friday lunch with Senate Republicans discussing a two-week clean CR without Ukraine funding.
