- From Monday, June 27, 2022, the new trains are scheduled to operate between Westend and Königs Wusterhausen.
- According to S-Bahn chief Peter Buchner, the air conditioning lowers the interior temperature by three degrees compared with outside temperatures, while the trains also have multipurpose areas and digital passenger-information screens.
- S-Bahn Berlin announced the change a few days earlier than the originally stated July 1, 2022 date; the roughly 30-year-old Class 485 trains are to be withdrawn and gradually disposed of, although some will serve as spare-parts stores.
- The new washing facility at the Grünau S-Bahn depot is 160 metres long, can clean a train in 13 minutes at its fastest setting and allows 85 to 90 percent of the wash water to be reused.
But with all due respect for the old trains of the Baureihe 485 — now it's time for something new and modern! (And cooler!) Starting Monday, the new, air-conditioned trains of the Baureihe 483/484 will be on the S46.— S-Bahn Berlin (via Twitter) – tweet with a video about the new climate-controlled trains on the S46.
