- Pierre Poilievre urged the federal government to immediately add Kata’ib Hezbollah to Canada’s list of terrorist entities.
- Terrorism charges were laid against Mohammad Baqer Saad Dawood Al-Saadi in the United States, where prosecutors describe him as an alleged senior commander of the group and an operative of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.
- U.S. prosecutors allege that Al-Saadi helped plan, coordinate and claim responsibility for nearly 20 suspected terrorist attacks and attempted attacks across Europe and North America, including the March 10 shooting outside the U.S. Consulate in Toronto and an attack targeting a Canadian synagogue.
- Poilievre noted that the United States has designated Kata’ib Hezbollah as a foreign terrorist organization since 2009 while Canada has not listed it, arguing that a designation would prohibit dealings involving its property and enable authorities to freeze and seize assets.
"Canada should not wait for another synagogue to be shot or another foreign consulate to be attacked before shutting down the terrorist organization allegedly directing these attacks," Poilievre wrote.— Poilievre wrote in a letter to Public Safety Minister Gary Anandasangaree urging the government to designate Kata’ib Hezbollah as a terrorist entity.
