- The Nationals unanimously voted to scrap their net zero target, focusing instead on emission goals aligned with other OECD countries.
- Leader David Littleproud described current government energy policies as damaging regional Australia and advocated for cheaper, fairer emission reductions.
- This move complicates coalition talks as the Liberals have yet to finalize their energy platform.
- Plans include repealing the Climate Change Act and expanding fossil fuel project support through the Capacity Investment Scheme.
This abandoning of net zero abandons taxpayers, it abandons future generations, it abandons investments.— Sarah Hanson-Young, Greens senator, described the Nationals' policy as a disaster that will put Australian lives at risk.
