- The Education Department demanded cancellation for spring 2026 and warned the district could otherwise lose a $30 million grant.
- The department’s civil-rights office called the program discriminatory and cited alleged violations of Title VI.
- The program had been offered since 2015 at 46 middle schools, high schools, and education centers across the district.
- School officials said students of all backgrounds participated, disputing quotas and the grant’s direct connection to the program.
This is textbook racial discrimination, and no justification proffered by the District can overcome the patent illegality of its unlawful exclusionary program.— From the U.S. Department of Education, Office for Civil Rights letter to Broward County Public Schools, regarding Latinos in Action and Title VI.
