- Colt Emerson was promoted to the Mariners' starting third baseman role following Brendan Donovan’s placement on the 10-day injured list due to a groin strain.
- Donovan is expected to miss more than the minimum timeframe and has undergone PRP injections to address his muscle injury.
- Emerson is planned to play regularly, focusing on third base with occasional shortstop appearances to give J.P. Crawford rest.
- The 20-year-old displayed promising Triple-A stats and showed significant improvement after receiving a cortisone injection for wrist discomfort.
This is not a 15-at-bat or a 20-at-bat tryout to see if he’s capable of taking the job and running with it for the rest of the year.— Justin Hollander, Mariners general manager, during a pregame session about Colt Emerson's call-up.
