- The show merges Joel’s demise with a newly created siege of Jackson by an evolving and larger horde of Infected.
- Jackson is portrayed as a thriving community with daily refugees and a structured defense system against threats.
- The battle filming lasted nearly four weeks, involving a new massive set, over 600 VFX shots, and an imposing CG Bloater.
- The episode closes with Jackson’s devastation and a powerful scene underlining the repercussions of Joel’s past choices.
It’s interesting to see how one person who makes a choice is being confronted by that choice, while a whole other bunch of people are feeling the direct and negative impact of that choice — not just one person, not just people that we don’t know or maybe don’t like, but people we love.— Craig Mazin discussing the parallels between Joel’s death scene and the siege on Jackson.
