- ByteDance created Doubao, a multifunctional AI chatbot with over 157 million monthly active users, overtaking Deep Seek.
- The app integrates text, audio, video chat, and customizable AI agents, closely linked to the Douyin platform.
- Doubao targets less tech-savvy users with a warm design and clear visual guidance, making AI more accessible.
- Leveraging experience with viral apps, ByteDance rapidly evolves Doubao and expands it to devices like smart glasses and cars.
It's marketed at people who are not the most technologically informed, people who may prefer voice chat and video interaction over text.— Irene Zhang, a researcher at China Talk, a newsletter about Chinese tech.
