Magath Urges Change After Nagelsmann’s World Cup FailureMagath cites Nagelsmann’s inexperience and calls for systemic reform in German football development by 2028.
- Felix Magath considers the appointment of Julian Nagelsmann as national coach a mistake that requires correction.
- The team lacked consistent progress partly due to injuries and Nagelsmann’s inability to establish continuity.
- Magath criticizes the DFB’s youth training system for focusing on quantity over quality and neglecting top talent.
- He warns that changing the coach alone won’t fix issues and advocates for prioritizing sports over politics within the DFB.
His appointment was a wrong decision. It must be corrected. But it would be a mistake to think that would be enough. It also concerns the direction of the DFB. It would not be bad if there was more focus on sport and less on politics there.— Felix Magath, in a Welt interview about the future of Julian Nagelsmann and the direction of the German Football Association (DFB)
