Supergirl's Cosmic Journey Reveals Dark New HeroReleasing June 26, 2026, the film features a troubled Supergirl navigating hostile planets with a brief cameo by Jason Momoa’s Lobo.
- The trailer depicts a hungover Supergirl who is markedly different from Superman.
- The entire story unfolds in outer space, involving battles on alien worlds.
- Jason Momoa makes a brief but striking appearance as Lobo.
- Inspired by Woman of Tomorrow, the film explores Supergirl’s harsh upbringing and mental health struggles.
In our story, we have Superman who was sent to Earth and raised by incredibly loving parents. Kara was on Krypton. She was on a piece of Krypton that drifted away from the planet and she lived there for the first 14 years of her life in a horrible situation where she watched everyone around her die. So, she’s a much harsher and more f***ed up Supergirl than you’ve been used to thus far.— James Gunn during a press conference discussing the Supergirl film.

- Director Craig Gillespie, known for his work on movies like Cruella and I, Tonya, is currently in discussions to lead the upcoming Supergirl movie featuring rising star Milly Alcock from House of the Dragon.
- The film Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, penned by Ana Nogueira, offers a fresh perspective on Supergirl, differentiating itself from the previous work of former DC Films head Walter Hamada and presenting a standalone narrative from the previous DC films, including The Flash.
- The casting for Supergirl was closely monitored by James Gunn, as the character is expected to appear in other DC Studios projects as well. Actress Milly Alcock is set to debut as Supergirl before her standalone film is released.
- As Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, written by Ana Nogueira, gradually takes shape, the project is still in its early stages, with several key elements yet to be finalized. The film currently lacks a director and no release date has been set, reflecting the recent completion of Nogueira's agreement.
