- Bosa introduced a bill requiring employers to disclose salary ranges in all job advertisements.
- The legislation prohibits basing salary offers on applicants’ previous or current wages to prevent bias.
- Lack of pay transparency limits candidates’ negotiating power and restricts career mobility for skilled workers.
- The proposal targets persistent wage gaps linked to race, gender, and disability, fostering greater equity in employment.
This entrenches inequality and diminishes trust in the labour market. Given South Africa’s history of pay discrimination, this impact is felt disproportionately along lines of race, gender and disability.— Nobuntu Hlazo-Webster, Bosa MP, commenting on the pay-transparency bill
