Paul Thijssen meticulously planned the killing of Lilie James, setting a trap in a school gym’s disabled bathroom.

He blocked other toilets with a cleaning sign to force Lilie to use the targeted facility, where he struck her with a hammer.

Thijssen secured the scene by locking automatic doors and rehearsed the attack several hours earlier.

After anonymously calling emergency services, he died shortly afterward in an apparent suicide.

If you go into the school there is a entrance on the left of the reception area, where there is a sports department. And there is a bathroom , on the right hand side, where there is a body.
— Paul Thijssen, during an emergency call to New South Wales emergency services reporting Lilie James' death
