- Scott Pelley stated that CBS News' parent company, Paramount Global, has started to supervise '60 Minutes' content more closely.
- This comment came after the abrupt resignation of Bill Owens, the show's longtime executive producer, who felt that editorial independence was compromised.
- Pelley framed Owens' resignation as a protective measure for the show's journalism integrity.
- The relationship between Owens and CBS deteriorated due to interference in editorial decisions, while the merger between Paramount and Skydance Media is still pending.
It was hard on him, and it was hard on us. But he did it for us—and you.— Scott Pelley on Bill Owens' resignation to protect 60 Minutes from further interference.
