🐦 Which migratory birds have you already seen? 👩‍🌾 The first cranes and storks are back! The timing of bird migration is determined not only by genetics or day length, but also by temperature, rainfall, and wind. This is why climate change is a challenge for migratory birds: In some regions, spring is now arriving earlier, while in others it arrives later or remains unchanged. The birds travel through different regions, and the shift varies from region to region. So it's not easy to arrive at the right place at the right time so that food is perfectly available. Everything has to match: the timing of plant growth, the weather conditions, and the time of arrival. 👉🏼 Many migratory birds undergo a kind of "microevolution": They adapt to the new conditions over just a few generations and pass this information on to their offspring. 🪺 Because those who arrive earlier may have more success breeding. For one thing, there are still more free nesting sites available.
