Quick Glance: Oakland Airport Considers Adding 'San Francisco' to Name
- Oakland International Airport is considering adding 'San Francisco' to its name to attract more passengers, but faces opposition from neighbors across the Bay.
- The Board of Commissioners for the Port of Oakland will discuss the matter at their upcoming meeting on Thursday.
- Officially known as Metropolitan Oakland International Airport, the airport lost 39 of 54 new routes added from July 2008 to March 2024, raising concerns about geographical confusion among travelers.
- The potential name-change has alarmed San Francisco officials, who fear it would cause confusion among travelers and infringe on the city's trademark rights.

Kentucky coach John Calipari talking with Arkansas about open job, according to multiple outlets
baltimoresun.com/2024/04/08/kentucky-coach-john-calipari-talking-with-arkansas-about-open-job-according-to-multiple-outlets/
Quick Glance: Arkansas Saves Kentucky and John Calipari
- John Calipari and Kentucky were on the brink of giving it one more shot. Arkansas saved them from themselves - and that's good for everyone.
- The relationship between the 65-year-old Hall of Fame coach and the elite program was not just dull but also burdensome. When athletic director Mitch Barnhart and Calipari sat for a local television interview last month to assure fans that they were on the same page and committed to getting the Wildcats back on top, it seemed more like a hostage video.
- Arkansas and its billionaire supporters unexpectedly intervened to recruit the coach nobody else pursued and offer him a compensation beyond what others could provide. Everyone benefits. Perhaps not the Razorbacks - time will tell - but certainly Calipari and Kentucky. He was in desperate need of a fresh start, as were the Wildcats. After failing to reach the second weekend of the NCAA Tournament for the fourth consecutive year, the individual who led Kentucky to seven Elite Eights, four Final Fours, and a national title in his initial decade came to a realization.
- This is not intended to diminish Calipari's past achievements at Kentucky. He revitalized the Cats, contributed to their national title, and kept UK in contention for a championship nearly every year during his remarkable first ten years. He served as a positive influence in the state, demonstrating his philanthropy in times of crisis. This is about recognizing that since 2020, Calipari was tarnishing this legacy. It's about acknowledging that both sides knew the journey had come to an end and it was time to step away. Just when it seemed that Calipari and Kentucky were considering another attempt, Arkansas intervened and rescued them from themselves.

Quick Glance: Oakland A's to Play at Sacramento's Sutter Health Park before Las Vegas Move
- The Oakland Athletics will play their final season in Oakland in 2024, marking their 57th season there. They will move to the Sutter Health Park in Sacramento for 2025-27, with the option to extend for another year. The park will serve as a major league venue for at least three seasons.
- The Sacramento Kings own the River Cats. The A's look to relocate to Las Vegas by the 2028 season. Oakland is now focusing on developing the Coliseum site. The city offered the A's a fair deal for 2025-27, which was seen as fiscally responsible.
- Oakland extended gratitude to West Sacramento, Sutter Health Park, and the Sacramento region for hosting the A's temporarily. Sutter Health Park will host the A's for the 2025-27 seasons before their move to Vegas in 2028. The park will be modified to meet MLB standards, ensuring a top-notch baseball experience. - California Governor Gavin Newsom announced the installation of 480 high-tech surveillance cameras in Oakland and surrounding freeways to combat crime.
- The cameras can identify and track vehicles by license plate, type, color, and even decals and bumper stickers, providing authorities with real-time alerts of suspect vehicles.

- Several prominent employers in Oakland have also taken measures to improve public safety as the debate over the use of surveillance technologies continues.
