Key FactsMicrosoft works on clearer restart notices for Windows updates
Oct 30, 2026 · Reading time: ~45 sec.
Summary created with AI assistance · Source: pcgameshardware.de
  • Microsoft MVP Nathan McNulty criticized on X on October 20 that Windows offers a restart while updates are still running.

  • An early restart can lengthen the wait and make another restart necessary.

  • Microsoft says the option is available because other updates requiring a restart may be running at the same time.

  • Microsoft is working on clearer notices and says users will be told about a needed restart only after installation is complete.
    • Thanks for the feedback. We’re working on an improvement to optimize the user experience for both scenarios (restart immediately because the desired feature is ready / don’t restart until everything is installed). In either case, we’ll only notify you about a restart after installation is complete. :)
    — Aria Hanson of Microsoft replied in the X thread discussing restarts while updates are still installing.

Jul 7, 2025 · Reading time: ~45 sec.
Summary created with AI assistance · Source: hothardware.com
  • According to Statcounter, Windows 11 accounts for 52% of desktop Windows installations, compared with 44.59% for Windows 10.

  • Windows 11 overtook Windows 10 during the first week of July after trailing by 1.06 percentage points in late June.

  • Microsoft said consumer support for Windows 10 was due to end on October 14, 2025, including security updates and technical assistance.

  • Microsoft also confirmed a Windows 11 25H2 update planned for later in the year.
    • Right now we're releasing Windows 10, and because Windows 10 is the last version of Windows, we're all still working on Windows 10.
