  • A report from the World Health Organization and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention indicates a significant decline in measles immunization since the onset of the coronavirus pandemic, resulting in a record high of almost 40 million children missing a vaccine dose last year.

  • With the increase in cases that could jeopardize the virus's eliminated status in the U.S., the CDC is calling for measures to boost measles immunization.

  • So far, 113 measles cases have been confirmed since 2020, compared to 58 cases detected last year. The majority of measles patients since 2020 have not been vaccinated or had an unknown vaccination status.

  • Experts express concerns that the rise in measles cases in the U.S. may signal a troubling trend. The CDC emphasizes the need to increase routine MMR vaccination coverage to maintain elimination.
