Teddy was put to sleep on May 19 and sent through the veterinary practice to Animal Funeral Services for an individual cremation and return of his ashes, but Roberts was told weeks later that he could not be located.

Roberts said that during two visits she found bags containing animal remains outside the premises and in a van.

After her social media post, many people contacted her asking whether she had seen their dogs there and sent photographs of their pets.

The APHA is leading an ongoing investigation, while Herefordshire Council says it is examining the circumstances with the APHA, RSPCA and other relevant agencies.

The thought of him being sent to the wrong place and being thrown away because he's unclaimed is killing me.
— Jessica Roberts, Bridgnorth resident and Teddy's owner, describing the fear that Teddy could be sent to the wrong place and discarded because he was unclaimed.
