- President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif signed the defense agreement in Mecca on August 7.
- The parties named it the Mecca Defense Alliance; its secretariat is to be established in Riyadh, with a Pakistani official slated as its first secretary-general.
- The three countries rejected speculation that the alliance targeted Iran and said an attack on one treaty party would count as an attack on all.
- Fidan said the alliance would neither replace nor alter Türkiye’s NATO obligations, but would complement them.
