Quick Glance: Indyref2: What will happen if the Supreme Court rules on a Scottish independence referendum?
- The Supreme Court will decide whether a second Scottish independence referendum can take place without the assent of Westminster.
- Following a two-day hearing in October, the Supreme Court will issue its decision on Wednesday morning.
- The Scottish National Party and the Scottish Greens, both of whom favour independence, won a majority, and Ms Sturgeon issued a draft referendum law in 2022, which the Scottish government stated would fund the referendum if it was enacted by the Scottish Parliament.
- He contended that this was outside the devolved jurisdiction of the Scottish Parliament and that the Supreme Court should not rule on the issue at all.
