- OMV Petrom, a major energy producer in Southeast Europe, has signed financing contracts for two green hydrogen production facilities with a total capacity of 55 MW at the Petrobrazi refinery in Romania.
- These contracts, concluded with the Romanian Ministry of Energy, have a maximum financing value of EUR 50 million, while the overall investment amounts to approximately EUR 140 million. The funding was secured following the reopening of the procedure to support investments in green hydrogen projects in July 2023, originally initiated in 2022.
- "As part of Strategy 2030, our commitment involves facilitating the energy transition in Romania and the region, aiming for investments totaling around EUR 11 billion by the end of this decade. Approximately 35% of these investments will be allocated to projects supporting low and zero-carbon emissions. We have made significant progress in renewable energy and electromobility initiatives, and the addition of hydrogen to our low-carbon project portfolio further illustrates our dedication," stated Christina Verchere, CEO of OMV Petrom.
- The proposed projects seek to establish two water electrolysis plants, each with capacities of 35 MW and 20 MW, respectively, at the Petrobrazi refinery.
