- Pechstein took over DESG’s national coaching role in early August and does not rule out a long-term political position.
- In 2021, she stood for the CDU in Treptow-Köpenick but clearly failed to enter the Bundestag.
- The state minister position for sport and volunteering is unfilled after Christiane Schenderlein moved to the Health Ministry.
- She told Bild am Sonntag she would not avoid talks about the role if the chancellor considered her suitable.
If the Chancellor is convinced that someone like me can advance German sport at the political level, then I would of course not close myself off to such a conversation.— Claudia Pechstein, in remarks to Bild am Sonntag about whether she would consider a post in politics.
