- Iga Swiatek hadn't lost a match since February.
- However, she was inexperienced with the Wimbledon grass.
- Swiatek was defeated 4:6, 2:6 in the third round by Alize Cornet, the same destiny as Serena Williams eight years earlier.
- Swiatek had decided not to play on grass after winning the French Open, and she canceled her participation in the Berlin tournament.
- "I'm like a good wine - and in France, good wine always ages well," Cornet remarked, offering words of consolation to Swiatek, who will face loss for the first time since February.
