- Two days after fourth-seeded Virginia Tech was upset in the second round of the women's NCAA tournament, Kenny Brooks has stepped down to take over as head coach of the Kentucky Wildcats.
- Brooks boasts an impressive career record as a Division I head coach with a .717 winning percentage in 22 seasons. He replaces Kyra Elzy in Lexington after she was let go due to consecutive losing seasons.
- Brooks brings a successful tenure at Virginia Tech, where he led the team to a Final Four appearance and led the ACC in offensive efficiency and effective field goal percentage. In contrast, Kentucky ranked last in both categories this past season.
- Brooks' departure signifies a time of transition for Virginia Tech, as the team was already facing changes with key players potentially leaving. The Hokies now need to find a new coach who can continue the success under Brooks, while the ACC navigates a period of uncertainty.

- Virginia Tech's standout point guard, Georgia Amoore, has reportedly joined the transfer portal, as confirmed by the school on Monday.
- This announcement comes on the heels of Virginia Tech coach Kenny Brooks departing for the head coaching position at Kentucky women's basketball team a week prior.
- Having reached her senior year, Amoore was faced with a deadline on Monday to opt for the 2024 WNBA draft or extend her collegiate career using the additional eligibility due to the pandemic.
- Standing at 5 feet 6 inches, the Australian-born point guard played a pivotal role in Virginia Tech's rise as a dominant force in the ACC and nationally. With impressive averages of 18.8 points and 6.8 assists per game in her senior season, she departs as the program's all-time assists leader. Despite Amoore's contributions that led Virginia Tech to their first Final Four appearance in 2023, the team exited the NCAA tournament in the second round this year, facing postseason challenges without star player Elizabeth Kitley due to injury. Amoore is poised to make an immediate impact wherever she lands and is currently viewed as a top prospect in the transfer portal.
Kentucky resources led Kenny Brooks to leave Virginia Tech: "The landscape of college athletics is changing," he said.
