Wildberries attacks could shake Russia’s financial systemSince July 18, the wave has hit at least 20 sites, while a collapse of the company remains uncertain.
- In early August, Elektrostal near Moscow saw the heaviest strike in the wave that began on July 18; by August 10, at least 20 logistics centers and warehouses had been hit, with some completely burned out.
- Taras Skvortsov, Sber’s finance director, confirmed that the bank was considering increasing loan-loss provisions and was preparing for defaults.
- After the attacks on warehouses and the withdrawal of many sellers, turnover fell by a quarter, while Russian media estimated direct building damage at 200 billion rubles.
- Wildberries has nearly €10 billion in liabilities, mostly owed to state-controlled banks, and Russian analysts consider the company unsalvageable without government support.
We have to take down Wildberries and Ozon. This will collapse the banking system because they are among the largest corporate debtors.— Denys Schtilerman, CEO of the Ukrainian drone maker Fire Point (formerly held a Russian passport for the Moscow Defense Ministry)

- On 15 August, Ukrainian drones reportedly struck a Wildberries warehouse in Moscow Oblast; 21 other sites across Russia had reportedly been hit earlier.
- More than 20 warehouses covering over two million square metres reportedly burned within one month, destroying mainly the goods stored inside.
- The damage to the goods may already amount to the high single-digit billions of dollars, while Wildberries reportedly reimbursed tens of thousands of merchants for part of their costs.
- Defaults by indebted merchants could put pressure on banks, while Vladimir Putin called for destroyed logistics and storage capacity to be restored, including with state participation.
Even with government involvement. In this context, I ask the government to pass a corresponding program.— Vladimir Putin, President of the Russian Federation, in the context of remarks about restoring destroyed logistics and storage capacity
