Nigeria confirms first Ebola case in more than a decadeNigeria’s health minister said the 42-year-old spent two and a half weeks in Kampala and stopped in Addis Ababa for two hours on her return.
- According to Africa CDC, she developed symptoms on 6 October 2026, three days after returning to Abuja on 3 October.
- The health minister said three laboratory tests confirmed the diagnosis on 20 October, after authorities were alerted the previous day.
- The health ministry reported 44 contacts; the aviation minister said 46 people were barred from flights, including 44 hospital contacts and two household workers.
- Uganda’s health ministry disputed the account, saying she was Nigerian and had only transited Uganda on a business trip to eastern DR Congo.
“We respect our sister nation of Uganda. We have very strong solidarity, we are all in it together.”— Nigeria’s health minister, Muhammad Ali Pate, said this amid conflicting accounts of the Ebola patient’s movements, emphasizing cooperation with Uganda.
