- Xbox chief Phil Spencer revealed plans for a dedicated game app store on iOS and Android targeting a 2024 release.
- The store aims to stream Xbox and third-party games on mobile devices once Apple and Google allow alternative app stores.
- Microsoft’s initiative responds to regulatory pressures on major platforms and the ongoing Activision Blizzard acquisition challenges.
- Popular titles like Call of Duty: Mobile might help attract players away from Apple’s and Google’s app stores.
Today, we can’t do that on mobile devices, but we want to build towards a world that we think will be coming where those devices are opened up,— Phil Spencer said in an interview with Financial Times.
