- The tribunal upheld the charge of abusive language toward Nick Foot and imposed a $1500 fine.
- Evidence alleged Butters asked how much Foot was paid; Butters denied this, saying he questioned the free kick.
- Foot’s microphone recorded no audio of the incident, while Ollie Wines could not recall the exact words.
- Essendon great James Hird expects an appeal; the tribunal’s official reasons were due to reach both parties Wednesday.
Basically what the AFL are saying is, ‘Zak, you are lying. You’re not telling the truth’. It comes down to him as a character. If I was Zak Butters, I’d be taking this all the way because if you definitely know you didn’t say it, you can’t have that on your character and it’s a slur against his character.— James Hird, on Channel 9, commenting on Zak Butters' tribunal case and the AFL's accusation that he lied.
