Call him Dr. P: Paul George has a prescription for a healthy Joel Embiid

Paul George Suggests Easing Joel Embiid’s Workload

George argued that giving Embiid less responsibility and reducing his workload could help him remain healthy throughout the season.

Embiid hurt himself on a self alley-oop in Game 1 against the Knicks in April, prompting critics to call for greater restraint.

George will be 35 at the start of next year’s conference finals and missed one playoff series while averaging fewer than 50 regular-season games in each of the four years before 2023-24.

Coach Nick Nurse said the team plans to manage several older players through daily routines, training, travel, and close coordination with its medical staff and front office to reach the first playoff round healthy.

I think I can kind of help him get through a season healthy," George said. "It’s just not putting so much pressure on him. Regardless of how good you feel, I think pressure causes a lot of injuries … you think you have to get overplayed, you have to touch every possession. That kind of wears you down, especially for how physical he is."— Paul George at his introductory news conference with the Philadelphia 76ers, discussing load management and Joel Embiid's health
